Telecourse FAQs

How do I register for a telecourse?

The registration process is the same for telecourses as it is for all SWIC courses. One week prior to the start of classes students may begin to pick up telecourse materials and videos from the Distance Learning Office. A trip to the campus bookstore is required in most courses.

How do I obtain textbooks and other course materials?

If a textbook is required for your course, visit your bookstore or for additional information visit the bookstore website at www.swic.edu/servies/bookstore.jsp.

How do I obtain a telecourse student handbook?

After a student is registered, they may pick up their telecourse student handbook from the telecourses office approximately one week prior to the start date of the semester. Handbooks include general course information and at-home quizzes which are to be mailed to the telecourse office after completion of assignments.

Where are telecourse viewing locations?

Most telecourse programs may be viewed at various locations throughout the college's district. Viewing materials for the telecourse programs are available for students to view at the following locations: Belleville Campus Library, Sam Wolf Granite City Campus Distance Learning Office or Red Bud Campus Library.

Videos may not be removed from the libraries. Videos are available at these libraries for students who choose to view the programs on location instead of at home.

Note: Geographical Hort (HORT 290), American Playhouse (SPCH 220), and Electrocardiography Tech. (MA 240 & 299) videos are not available to view at these locations.

Can I check out telecourse viewing material?

Yes. All telecourse programs are available on video for home viewing. If a student wishes to check-out videos to view at home, a visit to the Belleville, Sam Wolf Granite City Distance Learning Office or the Red Bud Student Success Center is necessary. Students may view the videos at home throughout the semester.

All viewing material issued must be returned, undamaged, to the Distance Learning Office by the end of the current semester. Exceptions: Students who drop a telecourse must return viewing material immediately. PACE students must return all viewing material when session is ended.

What is a PACE telecourse?

The main difference for students enrolling in a PACE telecourse is the time frame allowed to complete a course.

How do I register for a PACE telecourse?

The registration process is the same for PACE telecourses as it is for all SWIC courses. A visit to the Distance Learning Office is THEN required to sign a contract. The contract is a schedule for the student. Students should also pick up course material and tapes. A trip to the campus bookstore is required for most courses.

If I am enrolled in a telecourse, will library services and resources be available to me?

Yes. Access to Periodical and Newspaper Databases is provided through the SWIC Library homepage.

Books may be checked out using your SWIC Library Card at the Belleville Campus Library, Sam Wolf Granite City Campus Library, and Red Bud Campus Library.
