Explore a Career in Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The SWIC Sonography program prepares students with the skills necessary to become a registered sonographer, prepared to work in a variety of clinical settings including hospital or privately-owned facilities.

Sonographers are trained professionals in diagnostic imaging equipment to assist healthcare professionals to make accurate diagnoses and treatment options.

Registered sonographers are skilled in operating imaging equipment, reviewing normal and abnormal images and preparing patients for various medical procedures following review of the patient’s medical records.

  • Three-semester certificate
  • Starts: Fall semester
  • Apply September 1st for following Fall semester
  • To enroll, students must have an Associate/Bachelors in Applied Science in a healthcare related field or an Associate in Science received from a two-year allied health program that is patient-care related and required clinical education

Applications for Fall 2026 are accepted Sept. 1, 2025 – Feb. 1, 2026.

Students must apply and be formally accepted into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program prior to enrolling in any DMS courses.

Entrance into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is highly competitive.

Requirements to apply?

– Online application is available in your eSTORM Student Center

  1.  Log in to eSTORM
  2. Click the tile that says “Program Applications”
  3.  From the drop-down bar, select the program you wish to apply for. Active and upcoming applications will be listed after clicking the appropriate program.
  4. Select “Apply Now” for the cohort you wish to apply for.
  5. Complete the application by following the steps as indicated
  6. Click “Submit”

Prepare for Success in Sonography

The SWIC Sonography program provides the skills necessary to become a registered sonographer, ready to work in hospital or private clinical settings using advanced imaging technology to assist healthcare professionals with accurate diagnoses and treatment options.

Program Highlights

Three-semester certificate program offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Selective admission for fall semester start; applications accepted Sept. 1 – Dec. 1.

Provides classroom education, laboratory/simulation, and clinical experience in a sonography setting.

Students view live ultrasound imagery during classroom instruction.

Certificate In Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Upon successful completion of the Sonography curriculum, graduates are awarded a certificate as a sonographer. Graduates of the sonography curriculum are eligible to take the registry examination by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
