Facilities - Southwestern Illinois College

The Southwestern Illinois Police Academy is located at the Southwestern Illinois Justice & Workforce Development Campus in Belleville, Illinois.

In this newly renovated facility, the Police Academy has a new state of the art physical fitness center (2024); onsite housing and meal services; training rooms equip for Scenarios, Control and Arrest Tactics and Simunition training; and “Smart” Classrooms equipped with technology such as Promethean interactive display boards allowing instructors to access information online for classroom use.  Additionally, each recruit has a laptop or desktop computer at their workstation during class with which to take notes and view instructor and class materials.

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board curriculums used for each session is provided to recruits via a thumb drive, allowing them to take notes right on the handout material.  This provides an interactive medium that can be taken home and used for reference later during their law enforcement career. Additionally, each recruit has Internet access and can correspond with their hosting agency if needed while attending academy sessions.

This facility supports the current enrollment of over 600 recruits per year between all academy programs and has room for continued growth.

Eric Danford is the Director of the Southwestern Illinois Police Academy and the Coordinator of the Administration of Justice program which includes the Police Academy along with other degree and certificate options.
