What is SWIC Alert?
SWIC Alert (powered by Omnilert), is SWIC’s emergency alert system.
The intent of the SWIC Alert service is to notify SWIC students and employees by e-mail and/or text message of campus closures for weather and other emergencies.
This is an opt-in service provided by Southwestern Illinois College. While there is no direct cost for this service, you may be charged a text message fee by your cell phone provider.
After registering for this service, you will receive announcements regarding campus closures for weather and other emergencies. You will also occasionally receive test messages.
Students and employees also have the option to have register to receive these alerts via text messages.
SWIC Alert Account Setup
- Login to your eSTORM account (click here for help logging into eSTORM).
- Click on the Quick Links tile.
- On the left menu, click on SWIC Alert.
- Sign into SWIC Alert using your eSTORM login information.
- Select which groups you would like to receive alerts from (campus/student/employee).
- Check the checkbox to agree to the terms of use.
- Click the Create account button.
- You can now setup text, email and voice alerts.
Set up SWIC Alert text messages
Make sure you have your cell phone handy – you will be texted a verification code to activate text messaging through SWIC Alert.
- Login to your SWIC Alert account.
- You should be on the SERVICES page.
- Enter your nine-digit cell phone number under SMS Numbers.
- Select your cell phone carrier.
- Click the Add new button.
- Enter the Validation code you were texted, then click Validate.
- NOTE: you will not be sent alerts unless you validate your number.
Set up SWIC Alert emails
Make sure you have access to the email account you want to use – you will have to login to your email account and validate it before receiving emails from SWIC Alert.
- Login to your SWIC Alert account.
- You should be on the SERVICES page.
- Enter your email address.
- Click the Add new button.
- You will be emailed a validation email.
- NOTE: you will not be emailed alerts unless you validate your email address.
- Login to the email account you provided, and look for an email from SWIC Alert with the subject Email Validation.
- Click the Validate button in the email.
- You will receive a message that the email validation was successful.
Set up SWIC Alert voice messages
- Login to your SWIC Alert account.
- You should be on the SERVICES page.
- Enter your nine-digit phone number under Voice Numbers.
- Click the Add new button.
- There is no verification for adding voice numbers.
View your SWIC Alert numbers/emails
- Login to your SWIC Alert account.
- You should be on the SERVICES page, which lists what numbers/emails you have set up.
Edit/Delete your SWIC Alert numbers/emails
- Login to your SWIC Alert account.
- You should be on the SERVICES page.
- For each contact type (text/email/voice), you have the option to Inactivate or Delete the number/email by clicking on the respective link to the right of each number/email.
How do I edit groups (campus/student/employee)?
- Login to your SWIC Alert account.
- Click the GROUPS link in the upper-right.
- Click the Subscribe or Unsubscribe link to the right of each group.
How long are Student SWIC Alert accounts active?
Accounts are active for two years from account setup.
After logging into SWIC Alert, the account expiration date is displayed on the SERVICES and GROUPS pages (links in upper-right of SWIC Alert), under the SWIC logo.
You will be sent reminders that your account will expire, follow the directions to keep your SWIC Alert account active (if needed).
Log out of SWIC Alert
Click the LOG OUT link in the upper right corner of SWIC Alert.
