Algebra Prerequisite - Southwestern Illinois College

Proof of Completion of Prerequisite Courses

Algebra

  • One year of high school algebra or one semester college (College algebra must equate with SWIC’s MATH 94, 95, 97, 107, 111, 112 or 113).
  • Students completing prerequisite courses from a high school not recognized by the State Board of Education or home schooled students may demonstrate competency of the algebra requirement by taking a proficiency test. Questions regarding proficiency testing can be addressed by our admissions reviewer, 618-235-2700, ext. 5455.

High school students:

Plan to complete algebra before senior year of high school.

If algebra was not completed in high school or was completed beyond required time limits plan to complete no later than the fall semester preceding potential program admission.

Prerequisites MUST be completed by the identified time frames to be considered for admission in programs that have more applicants than seats available. Enrollment in the spring semester or completion of coursework in the senior year of high school is too late for the admission process.
