Explore a degree in Earth Science - Southwestern Illinois College

SEE THE WORLD IN A NEW LIGHT WITH EARTH SCIENCE

If you find fossils fascinating, want to know how tornadoes are formed and wonder why rivers flow toward the oceans, then a degree in Earth Science is for you. Earth Science is the general term for sciences that examine the earth and its neighbors in space.

Careers in earth science, especially in growing field such as environmental engineering and energy conservation, are in high demand. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts such careers will grow by 10 percent, or more, by 2024.

Many of these careers will require a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

EARN YOUR DEGREE THE SMART WAY

You can save more than $12,000 on a bachelor’s degree, by starting at SWIC and earning your general education requirements for the Associate in Science degree with an emphasis in Earth Science.

After earning an associate degree, you can transfer to a university to study a variety of topics such as astronomy, environmental biology, geology, meteorology and oceanography.

START WITH AN ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE DEGREE

You must complete a minimum of 64 semester credits to earn an associate degree. Courses will include a blend of general educational requirements as well as pre-major specific courses.
