Testing Instructions

1. APPOINTMENT REQUIRED

You must schedule your exam at least 24 hours in advance of the time you wish to test. The available testing dates vary depending on the program you are applying for, so please make sure you are testing during the appropriate testing period:

  • Fall Nursing Education applicants: January 6 – February 15
  • Spring Nursing Education applicants: July 15 – August 15
  • Summer Practical Nursing applicants: March 1 – March 31
  • Fall Practical Nursing applicants: May 1 – June 1
  • Spring Practical Nursing applicants: September 1 – September 30

2. ATI TESTING ACCOUNT REQUIRED

You must create an ATI Testing account before arriving for your test.

3. DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENT

In order to be allowed to test you must have ONE (1) FORM OF IDENTIFICATION that includes a PICTURE ID.

4. TEST RESULTS

Your test results will be available immediately following testing. Acceptance criteria, i.e., test scores and their expiration are subject to change. Should you choose to re-test, you may do so during the next application period if you are not admitted.
(STUDENTS MAY ONLY TEST ONCE PER APPLICATION PERIOD).

5. TEST PREPARATION

The Success Centers in Belleville and Granite City also offer regular review sessions for the math portion of the exam.

  • A limited number of Exam Study Guides are available for check out in the Belleville, Red Bud, and Sam Wolf Granite City Success Centers.
  • You can purchase study books through SWIC’s Bookstore at the Belleville Campus
  • You can also purchase the book directly from the manufacturer.

The TEAS test is a timed, three-hour and twenty-nine minute, computerized, web-based exam. The TEAS test includes: English & Language usage, Mathematics, Reading and Science. A break is allowed between sections. If you take a break, do not start the next section, as the timer doesn’t stop. Please note that calculators are NOT permitted during testing. There is a calculator embedded in the program. The test will cover the following:

ENGLISH & LANGUAGE USAGE:

  • Conventions of Standard English
  • Knowledge of language
  • Vocabulary acquisition 

MATHEMATICS:                                                                          

  • Numbers & algebra
  • Measurement & data  
                                 

READING:

  • Key ideas & details
  • Craft & structure
  • Integration of knowledge & ideas

SCIENCE:

  • Human anatomy & physiology
  • Life & physical sciences
  • Scientific reasoning
